[Fixed] Problems logging in to lab PCs
Malfunctions
Update July 11th: The cause of the issue has been found and a fix should be rolling out to all PCs today. If you still encounter this problem next week, please let us know.
We are currently troubleshooting an issue where the Linux login screen can hang indefinitely after a failed login attempt. Sometimes this can even happen when you’re certain that you’ve entered your username and password correctly, in such cases it might be caused by a network error while logging you in.
This problem so far has only occurred on lab PCs which have at least a secondary monitor connected, for instance the PCs in the phonetics lab which each have a second monitor inside the soundproof booth.
If this happens to you: take note that it is still possible to interact with the login screen on the monitor. Attempting to log in on the other screen usually fixes the issue. If all else fails, rebooting the PC also works.
As for experiment laptops, you may disconnect all external monitors before logging in to prevent this issue from happening.
Please bear with us while we work hard to resolve this issue. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
